strange visions I have

I can’t always explain what it is I shoot. Sometimes, all I can do is focus and press the shutter button. I can’t interpret the image. I don’t know that there is any meaning. I’ll leave that up to you. I can tell you that, this year, I probably went to a better Halloween party than you. Belly dancing unicorns…yes, this party was something else.

Elizabeth, the photographer

You might remember Elizabeth from some earlier images. It turns out that both Elizabeth and her mom are photographers. I am looking forward to seeing their work at sometime in the future.

This particular image is one of recognizing the beauty in the lines formed by her stand combined with the billowing of her dress as the summer wind flowed by her. As with so many good images, knowing that you are seeing a photo worthy scene is more than half the battle. See beauty. Capture beauty.

Lines, form, and even story combine. Who is this young woman? Why does she wear such old styles? What is she looking at through her view finder? How do the modern camera and old dress come together? There is nothing in the image that gives us answers and we are left to our own imagination.

living as art

Living as Art
Living as Art 1

I wonder what your life would be like if you were a living, breathing, walking piece of art. Certainly you would need to be a brave soul and immune to the comments, stares, and opinions of others. You would have to walk your own path in life.

Would it be a lonely life or a life rich and rewarding? Something for me to think about. I don’t believe that I have this king of courage.

speaking with John Dunn

Talking with John Dunn 2

John Dunn is one of the volunteer blacksmiths on the farm. He is remarkable. As much as you will be impressed with his massive and strong hands, his shock of white hair and his wonderfully expressive eyes, it is his stories and sense of humor that will stay with you for a long long time after you are finished talking with him.

When I pull up to the farm on the weekend and I see him in the blacksmith's shop, I know I will need to spend some time hanging out with him.

reading hour

That’s my sister and I using Dad as a jungle gym while he’s trying to read something technical and uninteresting to the two of us. Kelly and ire are rocking those footed Jammie’s while Dad is sporting a classic ensemble of cuffed cords, fancy socks and penny loafers. Mom has always ensured that he dressed well. After all, he is her trophy husband. Isn’t that so Dad?

Who’s idea was the hat?

Some people are very interested in art while others could care less. It must be tough visiting an art museum when one of you is bored right from the start. I am an art lover and can spend hours in any of the many art museums around Ohio. This photo was taken on a recent trip to the Cincinnati Art Museum with my friend Jim Nash and his sons. It’s a good thing that all of us were enjoying everything the museum had to offer. Otherwise, it would have been a very long day, as I suspect it was for the gentleman in this image.
