when I was a chief

How!

That's me on the right, the last time I was in charge. My younger brother is in the middle, still wearing a back cast. My older sister is on the left. Aparently, she had something tasty on her fingers.

I had an assignment on another site that required me to post some images of myself, when I was young. I knew which one I wanted to use, but it took me a little while to find it on a little used back up drive. To be honest, it took me a little while to find the back up drive.

As usual, when I finally gave in and asked my wife if she remembered seeing the drive, she reached out and plucked it out of thin air. I think she has a little magic running throuh her as she does this all of the time. She even teased me about it. "What are you looking for? You know I'll find it right away."

And, she did. She is the boss of me now.

the joy of snow

Shoveling and driving aside, this week’s two snow storms have really been wonderful. Last year we had no snow to speak of and I missed it. Especially around the holidays.

The best part is lighting a fire and curling up oh the couch with a comforter and a cat. I can be comfy while I look out the bay window and the snow. Even better, add a cup of tea or hot chocolate and I am good all morning.

I hope all of you are enjoying your weekend as much as I am enjoying mine.

In the Pre Dawn Cold, They Came Running

As I was getting ready to head into the office this morning, I looked out the window and saw these cat tracks in the snow. By the distance between the tracks, I would say that the cats were really going pretty fast. I liked the light, so I ran and got the camera, snapped the shot and got in the car.

This is one reason that I love photography… spontaneity. See it and shoot it.

living in a box

It's not easy living in a box. The lifestyle is certainly not for everyone.

Cat in a Box 1

It's a tight space. At times you feel as though you don't have the room to turn around. You had better not have any claustrophobia at all.

Cat in a Box 2

You always get the sense that you are on display and that all the world is looking down on you for your choices.

Still, on the plus side…there are those naps. Oh, the naps…..

Dusk

Perhaps it’s that time of the year. The days are short and what little daylight we do get is often shrouded in clouds and morning fog. It’s these kinds of days that can have me turning inward, away from friends and family. I know the mood will pass, as it does every year. Still, the early days of winter are tough. I picked this image for today’s post because it reflects my mood. Perhaps tomorrow, we’ll have some sunshine. I do tend to be an optimist.

visiting with Annie

Today, I joined a friend of mine for a visit to the Annie Leibovitz exhibit at the Ohio Stake University’s Wexner Center. What can I say other than the woman’s images are incredible. I felt as though I was looking at a real master’s work. Not only did we get to see her iconic portraits, but we also got to see landscapes and still life’s. it was almost overwhelming. I don’t often gush about another photographer. However, I think you would be gushing as well if you were there to see those incredible prints.

Unfortunately, no cameras were allowed and I can’t take you any further than this photo of the gallery entrance. If it helps, just close your eyes and use your imagination. Did that do the trick?

Duck
Duck in the Park

It’s been a while since we had the opportunity to enjoy a visit with one of our fowl friends. The ducks in Snyder park are conditioned to see every approaching car as a potential source of food. Indeed, sometimes Jodi and I stop to feed them. The problem is that as soon as they see a car coming down the road, they begin to waddle in the street. Sometimes there are dozens of them standing in e road. Driving becomes a little tricky as you try to ease your way through them without injuring any of the birds.

To tell the truth, it feels a little like they are highwaymen and you are riding in a coach. “Throw out the crackers and nobody gets hurt. Quack!”

This is one of my favorite scenes in my hometown of Springfield, Ohio. I shot the image during a Saturday morning walk along Leffels Creek, near the white water park. The leaves are gone and the white trunks of the sycamore trees really stand out in the overcast light. All in all, a pretty typical December day. Just a little warmer than normal.

Have a great day folks. Get your week off to a good start.

what happened to the American dream

What Happened to the American Dream?
What Happened to the American Dream?

This is one of those scenes you see while driving along and know that you need to get a shot of it. I had to circle the block and come back. I simply rolled down my window and grabbed my camera off of the passenger seat. There is a lot of fun in this kind of spontaneous photography. If you don’t practice it, I encourage you to give it a try. Of course, you will always need to keep your camera with you. A point and shoot will do nicely. So, don’t feel as though you need to lug all of your gear around all of the time. The point is to be spontaneous and to have fun.
