choosing colors

Sorting Fabric

I was watching my friend Deb setting up a sewing machine when I turned and saw this scene. This was one of those moments when you knew that everything was perfect. From the pose, to the light from the window, to the activity, the entire scene was begging to be photographed. So, I did. I took several shots, but this one is my favorite. I tried B&W , and it was ok. However, I loved the colors and the warmth in her skin tones. So, I made some basic curves adjustments and kept the color in place.

getting buggy

Bug Eyed

I am not sure if this insect is gorgeous or just down right ugly. I am sure that the image turned out pretty cool. This was taken in the butterfly area of the Franklin Park Conservatory, in Columbus Ohio on Saturday. It is amazing what you can do with a kit lens and a little cropping if you don't have any intention of printing an image. Don't think I am completely crazy. A 100mm macro lens is definitely on my wish list.

the monet

The Monet

I too find myself needing a moment to absorb a great piece of art. In this case, my uncle Eddie gazes at a Monet. We both admired Monet's choice to not have a level horizon. As photographers, the need for a level horizon is drilled into our heads and the deliberate slant is really refreshing.

Unless of course, the ocean then falls off of the left side of the painting. That would be terrible indeed.

Shadow Installation

Yesterday was spent touring parts of Columbus with my uncle Eddie. One of our great stops was at the wonderful Columbus Museum of Art, located near downtown.

I've shown you this glass and light installation before. It's brightly lit glass forms are one of my favorite experiences at the museum. Each time I visit the installation, I find something new and remarkable. This meeting was no exception. For the first time, my eye was drawn to the shadows being cast on the floor of the room.

Enjoy and have a relaxing Sunday. Uncle Eddie and I will continue our adventures today.

Mystery Lilly 2

Mystery Lilly 1

My uncle Eddie and I were driving the Ohio back roads near Newark when we came across these red lillies growing wild on the side of the road. You performed so well identifying the spider wort earlier this summer that I thought you might be able to identify these as well.
