The first was shot from a foot bridge overlooking a damn that is channeling water towards a mill race. the still deep water is behind the dam while the blue rapids are on the shallow shoal side.
The second shot is of the same dam, but from the bank of the river. The trees are reflected on the deeper water while the shoals are visible on the other side of the dam.
Are you standing on your head Tim? This is the only way that my brain will make sense of these. Interesting images, quite surreal.
