wild artichoke thistle (it isn’t!)

What is it?

I found this dried plant on a walk through the prairie at Buck Creek state park. At the time that I captured the image, I did not know what it was. However, subsequently, my good friend and bpf Renee has informed me that this is Wild Artichoke Thistle. I trust her learned opinion on this matter without question. Renee is the worlds foremost expert in coming up with answers to things that I do not know.

You would be lucky to have such a person in your life.

Update: Oh, how we were wrong. I have since been told and it has been confirmed that our poor misidentified plant is in all actuality  a variety of Teasels.
